About Susan Larson

Susan Larson is an award winning Colorado artist known for her mastery in pastel and watercolor techniques. Inspired by the tranquility of nature and the emotions it evokes, Susan's artworks, such as 'Babbling Blues' and 'River Moguls', captures the essence of natural beauty. Through her blending of colors and drawing techniques, Susan creates visual narratives that resonate with vibrant color. She paints a variety of subjects, including landscapes, water scenes, aspen, protected wildlife, wild and domestic cats, birds, owls, waterfowl, horses, flowers, people enjoying the outdoors, barns, and trains. Her paintings are created from her own photography or on location. She expresses to the viewer what drew her to paint a particular subject, such as the play of light, color qualities of a scene, interesting shapes and shadows, or a memorable experience captured in time.

"My artistic gift is part of who I am and pervades my life whatever I am doing. I am always observing and ready to capture a special moment. It is the effect of light on landforms and vegetation that gives depth to the landscapes I love to paint. My work is realistic but it is not my intent to exactly reproduce a scene. Painting is for showing the viewer passages of light, pattern, heightened color, and edited subject matter in order to communicate a creative idea or impression. I may change the colors, simplify the view, move objects around, or delete aspects not important to what I am trying to convey."
